Design Streak Studio

Design Streak Studio is a research based social innovation lab focused on human-centered service design. It strives to facilitate an interdisciplinary environment promoting discovery, and experimentation engaging in experiential and service learning led by creative director, Archana Shekara.

In collaboration with various organizations, Design Streak Studio-lab combines the process of design thinking and making — conducting ethnographic research and collecting quantitative data to create new and authentic solutions to society’s complex problems. The studio-lab is committed to producing solutions of exceptional quality, and embracing design aesthetics to find a balance between form and function. Each project is valued for providing long term sustainability with a strong emphasis on morality and social justice.

Each semester is asked to create a redesign of the Design Streak Studio logo that represents who they are as a group. My proposal for the logo featured vibrant collages to represent the past, present, and future Design Streak members ideas and contributions to Illinois State University.

AIGA DEC Weave

Adobe Illustrator
Collaborators: Nellie Metcalf & Jessica Hultman

Design Streak partnered with the AIGA to create a call for proposals graphic to support their conference to be held at Illinois State University in the summer of 2025. The conference theme–Weave–was provided to us while options for communicating this theme were left open-ended.

We chose to create a design that resembled the interconnectedness and weaving nature of the human body. The nervous system is vital to the functioning of our bodies, they connect and communicate internally so we express our deeper selves outwards. They are like pathways that binds us as humans as we express our emotions and care to form a community of creative collaboration. These pathways are essential for design educators to develop innovative methods in their teaching to uplift student experiences, and designing better futures

Southeast Asian Cultural Festival

Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

The Southeast Asian Cultural Festival was an event co-hosted by Illinois State University and Heartland Community College to celebrate Southeast Asian food, culture, traditions, and heritage.

Capturing the beauty of the rice terraces that Southeast Asian countries use to harvest rice grains became the focus of the poster. Illustrating the steppes, paired with the lush greens of the rice grass allowed for vital information such as dates, times, and locations within the terrace steps and gives a celebratory feel through the colors. The title was created using rice itself making for a one-of-a-kind heading to showcase Southeast Asian cultural festive. The grainy texture of the title, paired with a geometric display font from an Indonesian designer and a bold block-style body copy designed by a Thai designer, adds a playful and inviting touch. With dynamic movement flowing through both the terraces and the vibrant blue sky, this poster invites and welcomes anyone interested in exploring more about Southeast Asian culture.
