Cultural Fusion Typeface

Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

This typeface blends elements from both Indian and German dress wear traditions, using a geometric structure to emphasize harmony and modernity. The clean, structured shapes mirror the balance and order found in German design while also reflecting the underlying symmetry and intricate patterns in Indian art and textiles. The paisley motif, inspired by a traditional Indian sari brought to class by Professor Archana Shekara, is subtly woven into the serifs, adding an organic flow. The triangle-shaped serifs, drawn from the lace-up details of a German corset, introduce a sharp, angular element. The integration of both uppercase and lowercase characters symbolizes the equal importance of each culture in the type's design.

The typeface originated as a hand-drawn concept on graph paper, which allowed for careful consideration of the geometric forms and relationships between the characters. It was then brought into Adobe Illustrator, where it was vectorized for precision and scalability. Throughout the design process, the typeface maintains cohesion through several key elements: the consistent line weight, the shaded counters, and the dispersion of serifs on each letter.
