Save Food. Save Money. Save the Planet.

This project was designed to raise awareness about the critical issue of food waste in modern society. In the United States alone, 40% of food produced is discarded although much of it is perfectly edible. Commonly wasted items include bakery goods, leftovers, fresh produce, and expired food. This project aims to challenge conventional thinking about waste by experimenting with non-traditional print media.

Each food waste category is separated into individual layers printed on transparent paper. The piece invites viewers to interact with it, gradually revealing information about the categories of food waste, much like the trash can fills up over time with discarded food. The use of transparent paper emphasizes the often-overlooked nature of this issue, making the viewer’s engagement a visual metaphor for how food waste is often invisible in our daily lives. The food graphics are made up of images from my camera roll to encourage the idea of reusing and recycling shown on a crumpled paper background.
